Kölsch – 1989 (Kompakt)

Danish born DJ and producer Kölsch has been creating gorgeous pieces of music for a very long time, and also gained his own residency on BBC Radio One every Thursday. Having already released two albums from specific years in life, it was right to release another, this time we to 1989, the last of his autobiographal albums. This is an album that shows light of his turbulent teen hood, turning these hard times into something happier.

Kölsch’s new album ‘1989’ is pure and enticing, 12 tracks to indulge in, it’s the perfect album to be filed under  easy listening. Album opens up with a short orchestral sound check which adds to this album’s pureness. ‘Serij‘ is the first track to be heard, it also features his ‘1983’ collaborator Gregor Schwellenbach. With its strong acid influence to the beautiful strings intertwined in this beauty, it is surely a work of art.
Grå‘ is next and this is more of subtle, hard kick driven track with a gorgeous melody and a catchy percussion flowing straight into some alluring chords that will make your heart tingle and flutter. The break is full of brass and unique melodies that are breathtaking.
In Bottles‘ is a fluttery, high percussive track that had gorgeous vocals from Aurora, lyrics are really satisfying, strings with that high percussive beat always shines throughout this track and it all flows perfectly together.

Grey‘, does it really need an introduction? It’s something that has been a staple to any Kölsch or techno fans worldwide. A truly remarkable, unforgettable beauty that I have no words for. It’s fluttery once again and beckons with enticing  strings, wind sounds it’s something that anyone needs to love and adore forever.
The happy, melodic, percussive beats stay with us in ‘Grau‘. This heavenly track has though grand melodies which are harmonic and also contains alluring and stunning strings once again. The intertwining melodies with the percussion is something unique and it’s perfect.
PUSH‘ is a harder techno gem on ‘1989‘, finesse is the key word for this track. With that really hard pushing, percussive beat and exquisite, harmonic chords it’s something that needs to be in a techno fans collection. It’s something that truly defines techno.
There must be something with Kolsch and the letter G, we next have ‘Gris‘ to indulge in. Cute, sassy, lighter track has major alluring strings and melodies that will put you in a trance. Percussion has more of a stronger edge to it than most of the tracks on the album, but it’s stunning, with a flow that is perfect. Very 90s.

We go to ‘14‘, this intriguing, mystery track is something that will make you think of how to perceive this track. With its piano chords and flowing beat into a little techno bleep and then strings, it’s a track that is heart warming, moving and touching. Truly unique.
Khairo‘, possibly one of my favorites on the album, sounds a little like ‘Grey’ but has its own identity and is a little deeper than its sister. With its 90s beat and repetitive string progression into a wow factor melody, its sister will be proud.
We have the 10th track up next called ‘YKPI‘. A light techno beauty with hypnotic chords and a percussive heart warming beat it separates itself from the album for sure. Gorgeous flowing melodies bring this track alive and its enticing charm throughout will be stuck in anyone’s heart.
Liath‘… It’s the sister to PUSH, with a more lighter, uplifting string melodies which you will hear a solo of in last few minutes of the track. It’s the intertwining of all the instruments used and that percussion is certainly well suited to this track for certain.

We now, very sadly end with ‘Goodbye‘, a 7 minute track that is the best goodbye you’ll listen to. A more angelic track this time, something that glistens and delights the ears of any of its listeners. The whole album comes together in this track which is perfection. Harmonic, soothing melody will make a heart flutter and a boy cry, it’s a heart breaker. Alien, space sounds make it very intergalactic also… Could be the message of the track that the Kolsch space ship is ready to depart back into heaven.

This album, is a MUST for any one who adores Techno, Tech House, House, Melodic tracks, Eric Prydz, Joris Voorn, Dusky and many more. An album that is perfect for anyone really who adores this music or Grey. The whole album is a heart warmer which will make you forget the world around you.

Sebjak – Fellas (Bibliotheque)

Sebjak and his label Bibliotheque have been raising the stakes high for a year already now, cooking up some really alluring and enticing tracks for everyone to adore. He has releases on other big labels such as Fonk, Sosumi, Doorn, Size and Ultra Records too. Sebjak comes back this beauty called ‘Fellas’ on his imprint, Bibliotheque records.

‘Fellas’ has such a bouncy percussion with charming vocals and catchy melody that’ll be something to tap your foot to, this is just something that is truly mesmerizing throughout. The whole track has stunning breaks and drops also, with the drops being somewhat very organic and minimalistic yet satisfying for the ears. Breaks are indeed very pulsating and have a touch of class to them.

It is something of a remarkable beauty that has the charming brass in between enticing melodies and very subtle tribal percussion too, its perfection and its melodies are just very unique and pure, I doubt there is anything out there right now that sounds like this. The bass is at a nice volume so you can hear everything in the track and that it’s not to overpowering, very pretty and sultry altogether really.

Lucas & Steve w/ Madison Mars – Stardust (Spinnin Records)

Dutch boys Lucas & Steve collaborate with Estonian DJ and producer Madison Mars pn this stunner which shall be released on the 22nd Sept 2017 on Spinnin Records. Both have had major success with tracks being released on Spinnin and Hexagon this last year or so and it’s quite fitting that they join forces to create this beauty. With support already from Benny Benassi and Bassjackers it’s perfect for anyone.

‘Stardust’ is something quite special with its alluring yet powerful melodies throughout the track and a strong vocal underneath all of the glorious, melodic sounds… it’ll be a smash for sure. The percussion is full of life and bouncy with great energy that’ll be great for club sets around the world. Though it doesn’t have that certain buzz or immense power like some of their other music does, it certainly is a firm favourite in my view. It’s totally worth a listen as it’ll brighten up those cold autumn evenings that are just around the corner.

Promise Land & Will K – Get Down (Sosumi Records) [Free Download]

Italian duo Promise Land and UK based Aussie Will K have already had major success with their productions this year having released on Arkade, No Face, Fonk and Doorn which have all been well received by DJs, fans and bloggers. This new beauty is called ‘Get Down‘  which has been released (18th September 2017) onto Kryder’s imprint Sosumi it’s set to be repeated over and over again for sure by all.

Get Down‘ has this gorgeous yet simplistic melody that flows through the track and with a drop that carries on with that simple, charming melody it’s certain that this will be addictive. It’s beastly vocal and bass line with a sassy percussion also adds a really nice harmonic vibe to it that I’m sure everyone will adore. Intertwining melodies too are a wonderful thing to hear in a track too so it’s really nice to hear that in this beauty.

Jose De Mara & Crusy – Believe (Release Records)

A new one going onto Third Party‘s imprint Release, created by two Spanish producers, Jose De Mara & Crusy who have releases on Sosumi, their own label Arcadia, Bibliotheque and many more. With support from Dannic, Kryder, Max Vangeli, Nicky Romero and more, being also 1001 Tracklists promoted track and receiving a lot of support from music blogs around the world, this is truly astonishing.

Believe‘ is this glorious Acid-esque, melodic track that certainly has a beastly bassline and kick that it is smoking hot, The vocal is stunning with the gorgeous piano chords and the build up to the drop is too die for. It’s 5 minutes of beastly Acid hints with a subtle vocal, charming melodic chords intertwining with a beautiful percussion it’s something that will be on repeat for sure.

Lane 8 – March of the Forest Cat (This Never Happened)

Starting his career with Armada’s sub label ‘Anjunadeep’, Daniel Goldstein aka Lane 8 has driven towards huge success.  He has remixed many producer’s such as Eric Prydz, Deadmau5, Le Youth and so many more, and with his new imprint called ‘This Never Happened’ he really is going the right way.

March of the Forest Cat is a track that defines beauty. With a simple percussion and layers of sweet, tantalizing chords, this certainly is something to listen to for sure. Everything flows perfectly from start to finish, the subtle bass coming through the sweet melody is also something that’ll take anyone’s breath away.

The drop with the bass lead is overwhelming and that the chords flow effortlessly within all of these sounds. Percussion has a dreamy Tech House vibe to it and adds to the tracks beauty and charm. March of the Forest Cat is a simple, elegant and charming little track, and it’ll certainly make a great easy listening track for the winter nights.

Four Tet – SW9 9SL (Text Records)

Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet was born in Putney and attended Elliott School where he started an experimental/ambient band called Fridge with some of his classmates. In 1998 he released his first track ‘Thirtysixtwentyfive’, then in 1999 he released his first album called ‘Dialogue’.

Having released two tracks already this year, ‘Two Thousand And Seventeen’ and ‘Planet’, Four Tet has now released yet another impressive track, ‘SW9 9SL’. With an harmonic introduction, to its beautiful, deep percussion and sweet melody it is a track that you will never hate. Wonderful, pleasing keys and harp like melodies smoothly come through the percussion that now has an oriental feel to it. Add a very small touch of acid or electronica and you have a truly remarkable track.

‘SW9 9SL’ is of those tracks you’ll listen to over and over again, it’s graceful and inspiring and will make you fall in love with it straight away. Out now on Text Records.

Highly Sedated – All We Have Is Now (Size)

Highly Sedated are an Electronica group from Sweden and consist of their manager and co-producer Sebastian Dollinger, Patrick Ray (Vocals, Writer and Co-Producer) Hannes Soderlund (Creative Manager)  Leon Somov (Producer) and Verner Westlund (Vocals, Writer and Co-Producer). They have always had great attention to detail when it comes to making music or mastering, which has paid off already with some pretty big hits under their belts after only a year of being together.
Their first release was Existence, they then released 1 of 3/4 successes called ‘Got Some Water?’. Then came the arrival of two more big hits, ‘Make Love’ and ‘Last Call’, which were tracks people most desperately wanted to own. All tracks, including their debut album which we will come to later are all released on the outstanding Size records owned by Steve Angello. Angello took them under his wing and have given them a whole new range of ideas and inspiration, vice versa to create glorious music over and over again.

I am a huge fan of Electronica, ever since Bjork’s music was played on the radio, so when I first heard this band for the very first time before they played a mind-blowing live performance as part of Steve Angello’s BBC Radio 1 Residency last year, was just super amazing and outstanding, I was so intrigued and I was later hooked onto their music after I heard this live session for Steve’s R1 Residency.

We begin this album review with the first track called ‘Wasted Youth’, which to me is just something you’ll fall in love with. The strings and harmonies are sublime and beautiful, you have quite a tough, sharp kick for the beat against that sweet piano and sassy percussion. The whole track to me is really interesting as it has so many instruments involved in the production it’s like a sweet whisper for your ears. The vocals from Patrick and Verner are perfection. The lyrics are quite intense yet very interesting to listen to. There is a part with spoken word and it’s a pretty inspiring statement that will surely bring a smile to your face for sure. It’s just something luscious to listen to before bed or if you need something mellow to listen to on your walks or runs.

Now we are moving onto a track named ‘Go Insane’. It’s possibly not my favorite track on the album just because I feel the lyrics are pretty dark yet they seem to have some truth to them in my life (Could be why I’m not too fond of it). But I have to say the lyrics are something I feel is pretty brave for the group to expose and write down, and with the gorgeous piano, with a catchy percussive beat it really makes you just want to ignore the lyrics and continue listening to the music. It is a very short track, shortest on the album actually but it’s a track that has some warmth yet a little darkness to it which possibly may be a favorite for sure to fans.

‘Got Some Water’ starts of with an acid/techno melody with a big kick and the well-known seductive spoken words which has so many different meanings. It has an insane Drum n Bass wobble which adds to that rustic sound. The percussive, classy beat is spectacular, it also adds more of a tough edge to a delicate, seductive track. ‘Got Some Water’ is well-arranged with its melody and vocals through-out, this track is rough, rustic and mesmerizing and super raw, which is perfection to my acid/techno ears.

Fourth track is called ‘We Try’. This track opens with some lyrics that may have a deeper meaning than the last track. It reminds me of some of the old Progressive House sounds from like 2009/2010. I really do enjoy listening to this track, with its subtle, bouncy melody and with some gorgeous percussion and synth it is going to be loved by many. ‘We Try’ I feel has very much of an Eric Prydz feel to it, with a massive 80s vibe too. It all just flows so nicely together and is another track on the album which is very well-arranged once again and the drops are to die for.

Track number 5, another little tech-house beauty with a gorgeous beginning that flows into breathtaking keys. This one is called ‘Slip Away’, the lyrics once again, just like the whole album have a meaning to them, a message for someone to listen to. The percussion is simple that will possibly make you want to close your eyes and just let your ears indulge in such a catchy beat. ‘Slip Away’ involves gorgeous harmonies and melodies that ripple through your skin and make your breath slow down and immerse you into this heavenly, very sassy track.

We are now at the middle of the album with ‘Burn’, a track that is another 80s synth-esque track that I adore. The lyrics are some what harsh and dark, but this album is packed with dark, strong lyrics that have a fabulous melody behind them. The melody is likely to be subtle house sounds but with that 80s/arcade sound, which is very catchy and with its dark lyrics it just sounds perfect together, gives it some toughness and edge which I find highly interesting. Another stunner that will possibly make you tap your foot to when listening to this.

Does this next track really need an introduction? I mean I can just say “We make love to the bass line” and you’ve already guessed what it’s called. One of Highly Sedated’s most famous tracks, ‘Make Love’ adds some more romance to the little collection. With its lyrics which are very sensual yet mysterious they will possibly get you to think of who this girl could be or it could be in your eyes. The melody and percussion are once again classic and perfect, really nice happy vibes again yet it has a little flair to it which I find really charming, for example the ‘Daft Punk’ ‘Tron’ work, really has that vibe about it. It’s one of many tracks on the album which you will have on repeat for sure.

‘Now’ is the 8th beauty on this album. With its techno vibes from the beginning flowing into a more subtle acid sound and a deep percussive drum beat it is one of the albums catchiest tracks I think. The melody uprises and just begins to wave in and out flawlessly to the gorgeous, simple melody which has a climatic build up and intense drop down. ‘Now”s lyrics have a strong message behind them, which I really enjoy listening to when I am coming home from work, and with that melody and that millisecond pause into a stronger drop, it’s just perfect for those moments.

We go to the 9th track, this one is called ‘Rush’. There is only one line of the lyrics that I feel I can sometimes relate too… “Her smell can make you blush”, I wear a lot of sweet, flirty smelling perfumes so I quite like this one ha ha. Percussion and melody flow together nicely, yet it does sound the same as some of the other tracks on this album so it is a little repetitive. Though it is an alluring track that is worth listening to for sure. Just has something about it though that sets itself from the other tracks on this album, maybe the house melodies or female vocal in the background of this.

A track named after the group themselves is our 10th track on this mesmerizing journey. The melody is very mellow and simplistic, I’ve had this on replay a few times this month actually, it’s a really beautiful piece of art and something that I think has a really nice easy listening vibe to it. The lyrics are again strong yet flowing really well with the eclectic keys and ravishing percussion and beat. The hi-hat is something that is prominent through-out that flows with everything else in this track, well thought out once again and another one you need to listen to.

On to a track that I feel is greater than ‘Make Love’, a track that a lot of people truly adore once again, this is called ‘Last Call’. Another techno beauty that could easily be played in a Drumcode night or played by a techno DJ, with a melody and dark vibe to it. The percussion is again very deep but simple and I think that’s another reason I love this album, for its simplicity and it’ll fit perfectly into anyones set for sure. The lyrics are mellow and really simple, something which will of course, be stuck in your head for a little while, everything has a perfect flow to it in this track.

We now finally come to last track on this lovely, amazing debut album from 5 amazing producers and singers. 12th and final track is called ‘Smoke Rings’. It begins with an enticing clicking sound along with a sensational percussive, catchy beat, the lyrics are again seductive and have a secret dream in my opinion too. You could actually say  there’s a sound that has a ‘Flatbeat’ chord involved intertwining through the pretty melody and luscious vocal. It’s another favourite of mine. Easy listening at its best.

So in conclusion, this album is seductive, has a lot of techno hints in it, some acid house here and there too. Also has strong messages in the lyrics for a few of the track on this record, I really highly recommend you sit back and listen to all 12 tracks and listen closely to the exquisite, fine details and amazing percussion involved in every track  on this album too. Highly Sedated have already done a few tracks before that aren’t available on the album, but you need to listen to them too 100%. Highly Sedated really have given the industry some new lights and an amazing pathway for other producers to venture out and follow suit. As Steve has picked up this album for his label ‘Size’, it is totally worth that listen and support. I have never heard anything like this before got a long time and so to hear all the attention to detail, with great flow in every track, it’s truly amazing and something I will have as possibly one my favourite records of 2017 or even the last 5 years.

Third Party & Pete K & Cory Lasser – Like This (Release)

British born Third Party release a brand new track on to their London label Release Records, along with Portuguese Pete K who is based in Paris and New Yorker Cory Lasser. They all come together to make this wonderful track called ‘Like This’.

Its something totally different from what I have heard from Third Party’s debut album ‘Hope’ which they are currently touring. But it’s something very special once again. ‘Like This’ has an incredible yet harsh melody with a classic percussion in the background. The little vocals in this track are perfect.

We then have a sweet melody, very soft against the harsh melody that rises through into a stunning drop that is a little bit catchy in much opinion. I believe this track will be a major hit with fans from around the world for sure.

Lee Carter & GVN – Mira (SlashScore)

Both currently residing in Liverpool (GVN born in Ireland), this phenomenal duo have released so many fabulous tracks this past year on many indie labels and every one I’ve listened has been mind blowing.

Recently this stunner has been played on Nicky Romero’s Protocol radio and  I feel ‘Mira’ is once again, mind blowing . With it’s  amazing melodies and percussive beat it’s bound to be replayed over and over again. The build up at the her beginning is climatic and very intense, gets you on the edge of your seat for sure. Then we flow nicely into an unbelievably mind blowing drop that is rhythmic and gorgeous its something I haven’t heard before.

‘Mira’ has a ton of inspiration, from Third Party to Dimitri & Wyman I feel,  it really is something for everyone’s playlists or DJ sets, it’s incredible.
